Four Textbooks Removed from Curriculum Following MPs Objection

Udaipur, April 17: In a significant decision, the Education department has decided to remove four textbooks from the curriculum for classes 9 to 12, effective from the academic session 2026-27. This action comes after objections raised by Member of Parliament Dr. Mannalal Rawat. The department has issued directives to all district education officers to ensure these books are no longer studied in schools.
According to an order released by the Deputy Director of Social Education, Bikaner, the textbooks being removed include ‘rajasthan’s Freedom Movement and Valor Tradition’ for class 9, ‘History and Culture of Rajasthan’ for class 10, ‘Golden India After Independence Part-1’ for class 11, and ‘Golden India After Independence Part-2’ for class 12. This decision applies to both Hindi and English medium textbooks.
The controversy began when Dr. Rawat objected to certain historical facts presented in Chapter 4 of the class 9 book ‘Rajasthan’s Freedom Movement and Valor Tradition.’ He claimed that the book contained historical inaccuracies and that some excerpts were influenced by leftist ideology. The Secondary Education Board in Ajmer had previously defended the accuracy of these facts and denied any amendments. Following this, Dr. Rawat wrote to the Chief Minister, formally registering his objections.
He argued that terms like ‘multicultural nation’ and ‘supranationalities’ contradict the Indian nationalist sentiment. Furthermore, he criticized the comparison of Sant Govind Guru’s freedom movement to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha as historically inaccurate. In light of the persistent objections, the education department has now issued orders for the removal of all four textbooks.
