Udaipur, April 17: In a remarkable tale of bravery, a constable from Banswara, who lost both hands while confronting armed robbers, has finally received posthumous recognition for his sacrifice 44 years later. The incident, which took place on March 3, 1982, saw Constable Mansingh single-handedly challenge a group of 8 to 10 armed dacoits attempting to rob the Bank of Baroda. Despite sustaining severe injuries, including the loss of both hands, he fought valiantly, forcing the criminals to flee.
On the occasion of rajasthan police Foundation Day, a special tribute was paid to the martyr at the Banswara police line, where Mansingh’s son, Karan Singh, expressed a mix of pride and sorrow. He recalled how his father fought until his last breath, even after the brutal attack.
The incident shattered Mansingh’s family, as his younger sister and mother passed away shortly after his death. At the time, Karan was only five years old and was raised by his uncle. Today, he serves as a police station in-charge, while his elder brother is in administrative service.
Banswara SP Sudhir Joshi unearthed old records to bring this act of valor to light and named a park in the police line ‘Shaheed Mansingh Balodyan.’ A gallery showcasing his inspirational story has also been established. This recognition, four decades later, is not just a tribute to a brave constable but a salute to the spirit of duty embodied by those in uniform who are willing to sacrifice their lives for the safety of others.
