Udaipurs First Elevated Road Project Delayed by Four Months

Udaipur, April 17: Udaipur’s first Elevated Road project is running approximately four months behind schedule. The ambitious project, which is expected to be completed by December 2026, has only seen 25% of the work finished so far, whereas at least 35 to 40% should have been completed by this time. The delays are primarily attributed to work stoppages during the municipal fair and changes in the foundation design.

Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna reported that 54 pillars have been erected, 32 horizontal beams installed, and seven spans of the roof have been laid. The first phase involved erecting pillars from the City Station to Udiapole, while the second phase, which includes excavation and pillar construction from Udiapole Circle to Hotel Paras, is expected to be completed by the end of this week.

Foundation Changes Present Major Challenges
The presence of solid rock at depths of 15 to 20 meters in the riverbed area beneath Udiapole Circle has necessitated changes to the foundation design, which has slowed down construction. Initially, pillars were being constructed to a depth of only 3 meters.

2.7 km Road Project Costing ₹136 Crores
The two-lane elevated road, extending 2.7 kilometers from the City Railway Station to Banshivan beyond Court Circle, is projected to cost ₹136.89 crores. Approximately 100 to 102 pillars will be installed as part of the project, which commenced construction in December 2024.

Relief from Traffic Congestion
The elevated road will run through key areas including City Station, Udiapole, Surajpole, Town Hall Road, Dehligate, and Court Circle, significantly reducing traffic pressure on the city’s busiest routes and facilitating smoother transportation.
