Drug Trafficker Arrested in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, March 24: A drug trafficker has been arrested in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities seizing 771 grams of narcotics from the suspect. The district police announced the arrest on Tuesday as part of a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.

According to a police spokesperson, the Pulwama police apprehended a suspicious individual during a checkpoint operation, where a large quantity of narcotics was discovered. An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Arif Malik, son of Riyaz Ahmed Malik, is a resident of Malikpora in Pulwama. He was stopped while carrying a nylon bag on Tengpona Road near a women’s degree college. Upon searching the bag, police found approximately 771 grams of a substance resembling charas or ganja.

The Pulwama police reiterated their commitment to combating the menace of drugs and urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug abuse or trafficking.

In a broader context, the Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces are conducting anti-terrorism operations in the union territory, maintaining strict surveillance on drug traffickers, drug peddlers, and hawala rackets, along with other illegal financial activities.

It is believed that the proceeds from drug trafficking and illegal trade are ultimately used to fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The army and Border Security Force (BSF) are deployed to safeguard the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders, preventing infiltration, drug smuggling, and cross-border drone activities.

Terrorist organizations, with the assistance of Pakistan’s ISI, are reportedly using drones to drop weapons, ammunition, cash, and narcotics into Indian territory to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
