
New Delhi, March 31: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with members of the European Parliament, led by Angelika Niebler, on March 30. During the meeting, they discussed a new chapter in india-EU relations and the growing consensus between both parties.
Jaishankar expressed confidence that the European Parliament would serve as a strong pillar of cooperation in this new era. He shared his thoughts on social media platform X, stating, “It was a pleasure to engage with members of the European Parliament under the leadership of Angelika Niebler. We discussed the new chapter in India-EU relations and the increasing harmony between us. As the agenda for cooperation expands, mutual comfort will also grow. I am confident that the European Parliament will prove to be a strong pillar in this new phase.”
Earlier in the day, the first meeting of the India-European Parliament Parliamentary Friendship Group was held at the Parliament House. BJP MP Anurag Thakur expressed hope for more such meetings to strengthen parliamentary Diplomacy and India-EU relations.
Thakur posted on X, “The first meeting of the India-European Parliament Parliamentary Friendship Group was held today at the Parliament House, attended by the delegation from the European Parliament, led by Angelika Niebler.”
He added, “I am grateful for the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. As the chair of this group, I look forward to leading such meetings to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and India-EU relations. We will work together for a strong partnership.”
Earlier this month, Jaishankar completed a successful visit to Brussels, where he engaged with EU leaders and foreign ministers, discussing the “vast economic possibilities” under the recently signed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to enhance cooperation in trade, technology, security, and connectivity.
