Novo Nordisk Ends Remote Work, Orders Full Office Return Amid CEO’s Revival Push

Copenhagen, September 12 (Patrika English News): Novo Nordisk has directed all employees to return to the office full-time as its new CEO seeks to speed up decision-making and sharpen commercial execution in the increasingly competitive obesity drug market.

The maker of weight-loss drug Wegovy announced the move a day after revealing plans to cut 9,000 jobs. The company has lost nearly $450 billion in market value since mid-2024 amid slowing sales and rising competition from Eli Lilly and compounded copycat drugs.

“This is designed to foster a stronger sense of belonging, strengthen relationships, enhance collaboration and accelerate decision-making processes,” Novo said in a statement.

The Danish trade union HK Privat, which represents administrative staff and lab technicians at Novo, expressed surprise at the move. “Working from home and a vibrant office culture are not necessarily mutually exclusive,” said union chair Kim Jung Olsen, calling the policy change “unfortunate” for employees who valued occasional flexibility.

Novo said staff can still make individual arrangements with managers to balance personal and BUSINESS needs.

The decision follows similar shifts at global firms including JPMorgan Chase, Amazon, and U.S. federal agencies, which have also rolled back remote work policies.
