Houston, March 28: Indian-origin golfer Sahil Theegala continues to impress at the Houston Open PGA Tour event, maintaining a joint 11th position with a total score of 6-under par after the second round.
Theegala scored 3-under 67 for the second consecutive round. He started strong on the front nine, making back-to-back birdies on the 5th and 6th holes. Despite a bogey on the 8th hole, he bounced back with birdies on the 13th and 16th holes during the back nine, finishing the round on a high note.
Another Indian-origin golfer, Sudarshan Yellamraju, also made a remarkable comeback. After scoring 69 in the first round, he played an impressive 4-under 66 in the second round without any bogeys, moving up to a joint 20th position with a total score of 5-under.
Currently leading the tournament is former U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, who delivered a stellar 7-under 63 in the second round, securing the top spot with a total of 12-under. Woodland’s round included eight birdies and just one bogey. He made a comeback to golf in 2023 after undergoing brain surgery and has shown excellent form since resuming play at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2024, where he finished tied for second last year.
Day one leader Paul Waring slipped down the leaderboard after scoring 1-over 71 in the second round, now tied with Theegala for 11th place. Theegala’s second round began on the front nine, where he made two consecutive birdies but lost a shot with a bogey on the 8th hole. He regained momentum on the back nine, finishing with a strong score of 67.
Meanwhile, Yellamraju made an impressive recovery after a slow start to the tournament, scoring 4-under 66. Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard played the best round so far with an 8-under 62, moving to second place with a total score of 10-under, alongside Jackson Suber, who also stands at 10-under.
