However, her journey to securing her first lead role was not without challenges. Reports indicate that Alia stood in line with 400 other girls to audition for the film ‘Student of the Year.’ Through hard work and passion, she has emerged as one of the most successful actresses in the industry.
Alia’s path was paved with dedication. Despite being a star kid, she earned her role in ‘Student of the Year’ through her audition. Filmmaker Karan Johar revealed in an interview that they conducted screen tests for nearly 400 girls across the country for Alia’s character in the film. In this fierce competition, Alia stood out with her unique style.
Karan Johar noted that he immediately recognized the ‘X factor’ in Alia that was perfect for the film. He also advised her to lose some weight, which she accomplished in just three months. Alia appeared slimmer and more camera-ready, making a significant impact with her debut film.
An old audition video surfaced, showcasing Alia performing dialogues from ‘Wake Up Sid.’ Karan mentioned that his friend Niranjan Iyengar had suggested Alia, the daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, for the upcoming film. After testing her, he was instantly impressed. He stated, “We saw 400 girls, but Alia had something different. I just told her to lose some weight. She worked hard and got ready.”
This dedication launched Alia into stardom, and the film performed well at the box office. Since ‘Student of the Year,’ Alia has never looked back, starring in films like ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania,’ ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania,’ ‘Kapoor & Sons,’ ‘Highway,’ ‘Udta Punjab,’ ‘Raazi,’ ‘Gully Boy,’ ‘Kalank,’ ‘Sadak 2,’ ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,’ ‘Darlings,’ ‘Brahmastra,’ and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.’ She has also received National Awards for her performances in ‘Raazi’ and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi.’
