Amelia Kerr Makes History with Hat-Trick Against Zimbabwe

New Delhi, March 11: New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr achieved a remarkable feat by taking a hat-trick in the third ODI against Zimbabwe on Wednesday. With this achievement, she becomes the third Kiwi woman to accomplish a hat-trick in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Globally, only 14 female players have managed this milestone in the ODI format.

In the match held in Dunedin, New Zealand posted a total of 303 runs, losing six wickets. In response, Zimbabwe was bowled out for just 103 runs in 27.1 overs. Amelia Kerr’s bowling performance was outstanding, as she took five wickets for just 22 runs in 3.1 overs, earning her the ‘Player of the Match’ title.

Kerr’s hat-trick began with the second ball of the 24th over, where she bowled out Adele Jimunu. She followed this by dismissing Audrey Mazvishaya leg before wicket on the next delivery. Completing her hat-trick, she bowled Tendai Makusha on the fourth ball of the over.

The first hat-trick for New Zealand’s women’s team was taken by Julie Harris against the West Indies on July 26, 1993, followed by Emily Drum, who achieved this against Australia on February 3, 1996.

Amelia Kerr is now the third woman bowler this decade to claim three wickets in consecutive deliveries during an ODI, joining England’s Charlie Dean (against South Africa in 2024) and South Africa’s Chloe Tryon (against Sri Lanka in 2025).

Throughout the series against Zimbabwe, Kerr has taken a total of 16 wickets for 140 runs. In the previous match, she claimed seven wickets for 34 runs, and in the first match, she took four wickets for 35 runs.

This series between New Zealand and Zimbabwe is part of the ICC Women’s Championship, marking the first time the African team has participated as one of the 11 teams in the competition.
