New Delhi, March 20: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a virtual meeting with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Theoharis on Friday to explore ways to enhance cooperation in Trade, investment, tourism, and maritime connectivity.
Minister Goyal emphasized the importance of India‘s growing relationship with Greece and expressed a desire to further strengthen this partnership.
Earlier, in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in the national capital. The leaders reviewed various aspects of the India-Greece strategic partnership, including collaboration in trade, defense, security, tourism, culture, and new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both countries particularly focused on enhancing connectivity through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC). They also expressed hope for the early implementation of the India-Europe Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which is expected to benefit both economies and create job opportunities for the youth.
The IMEEC corridor will be developed in two parts: an eastern corridor connecting India to the Gulf countries and a northern corridor linking the Gulf region to Europe. The objective of this corridor is to enhance connectivity, reduce costs, secure supply chains, and facilitate trade, thereby fostering better economic ties between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East and generating new employment opportunities.
