
Mumbai, April 1: Remo D’Souza is a name synonymous with the Bollywood film industry, known for his exceptional Choreography in numerous hit films. Today, he stands as one of the top and most successful choreographers and directors in Indian cinema. However, few are aware of the struggles he faced during his early days, including periods of hunger while living on the streets of Mumbai.
Born on April 2, Remo has worked tirelessly for years to reach his current stature. He began his career as a background dancer and has now transitioned into directing films and hosting popular Dance reality shows.
Originally named Ramesh Gopi, Remo changed his name upon moving to Mumbai. His passion for dance was evident from a young age, but upon his arrival in the city, he faced significant challenges, including a lack of shelter and insufficient funds for food. He often spent nights on the streets or in cramped rented rooms, yet his dedication to dance kept him motivated.
His breakthrough came in 1995 with Ram Gopal Varma’s film “Rangeela,” where he worked as a background dancer. His performance caught the eye of industry insiders, leading to more opportunities. He began working as an assistant choreographer to Ahmed Khan, and his first major achievement was choreographing the item song “Ishq Samandar” for Sanjay Dutt’s film “Kaante,” which catapulted him to fame overnight.
Following this success, Remo continued to receive numerous opportunities, eventually becoming one of Bollywood’s leading choreographers. His choreography in films such as “Rangeela,” “Kaante,” “Mission Ishq,” “Fitoor,” and “Street Dancer” has been widely acclaimed. He has also made a significant impact on dance reality shows, serving as a judge and host for popular programs like “Dance India Dance” and “Dance Plus.”
Renowned for his energy, discipline, and positivity, Remo has become a favorite among young fans. He has also showcased his directing skills with films like “Street Dancer 3D.”
