Mumbai, March 31: Cinema serves not only as a source of ENTERTAINMENT but also as a powerful medium for social change. Films that have the potential to alter human thought, behavior, and perspectives can leave a lasting impact. In line with this belief, a commendable initiative has emerged to screen a notable film in prisons, aiming to bring about positive change in the lives of inmates.
The film in question is ’23’, directed by Raj Rachakonda. The initiative was announced by Soumya Mishra, the Director General of the Telangana Prisons Department, during an award ceremony. She stated, “This film is not just a story; it responsibly portrays a significant aspect of society and the rehabilitation of criminals. The seriousness and sensitivity with which the film has been presented is commendable.”
Mishra shared her personal experience after watching the film, expressing, “I was greatly impressed by the film, which effectively showcases the transformation of criminals. Until now, the realities of prison life have not been depicted with such truth and depth. This film fills that gap and provides audiences with a new perspective.”
She also compared the film to the renowned Hollywood movie ‘The Shawshank Redemption’, which is considered one of the greatest films worldwide. Mishra remarked, “’23’ is a serious and inspiring film of the same caliber. If this film can bring even a slight change in the thoughts of the prisoners, it will be a significant success. This is the purpose behind our decision to screen the film in prisons.”
The narrative of ’23’ revolves around crime and rehabilitation, illustrating how some individuals stray onto the wrong path, but with proper guidance and circumstances, their lives can be transformed. Released last year, the film has received tremendous acclaim from both audiences and critics alike.
