Mumbai (Patrika English News): A major mishap was averted on Friday when a SpiceJet aircraft lost a tyre during takeoff from Kandla Airport in Gujarat. The Bombardier Q400 aircraft, operating a flight to Mumbai, continued its journey despite the incident and landed safely at Mumbai Airport.
According to officials, the tyre detached and fell on the runway during takeoff. The pilot, however, maintained composure and decided against aborting the flight. Ahead of landing in Mumbai, authorities declared a full emergency at the airport. The aircraft landed safely and taxied on its own to the terminal.
All 75 passengers onboard were safely deplaned, SpiceJet confirmed. The airline has launched an internal investigation to determine the technical reasons behind the malfunction.
Recent Incidents at Indian Airports
The incident comes weeks after a similar scare involving an IndiGo A321 aircraft at Mumbai Airport on 16 August. The plane’s tail struck the runway during a go-around attempt in poor weather. The aircraft later landed safely, and all passengers and crew were unharmed. The airline said the plane was undergoing inspection and repairs.
In another case, an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Gwalior was unable to land on its first attempt but touched down safely on the second try.
