Sunil Narine Becomes Most-Capped Foreign Player in IPL History

Mumbai, March 29: In a historic moment during the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Mumbai Indians won the toss against Kolkata Knight Riders and opted to bowl first. This match marked a significant milestone for KKR’s all-rounder Sunil Narine, who became the most-capped foreign player in IPL history, playing his 190th match.

Narine surpasses the previous record held by West Indies legend Kieron Pollard, who played 189 matches. South African star AB de Villiers has participated in 184 IPL matches, while Australian cricketer David Warner shares this tally. Dwayne Bravo rounds out the list of top foreign players with 161 matches.

In his IPL career, Sunil Narine has taken 192 wickets at an average of 25.63. Additionally, he has scored 1,780 runs, including one century and seven half-centuries.

The match at Wankhede Stadium saw Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, fielding a strong lineup that included Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton (wicketkeeper), Tilak Varma, Sherfane Rutherford, Naman Dhir, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Markande, A.M. Gajanfar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah.

On the other hand, KKR, under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, featured players such as Finn Allen, Cameron Green, Ankur Raghuwanshi (wicketkeeper), Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, and Blessing Muzarabani, who is making his IPL debut after signing with KKR shortly before the league began, leaving the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Both teams are eager to start their new season with a victory in this match, which features KKR with six batsmen and five bowlers, including four foreign players: Cameron Green, Finn Allen, Blessing Muzarabani, and Sunil Narine.
