
Ranchi, March 8: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a remarkable initiative highlighting women’s empowerment was witnessed in the railway divisions of Ranchi and Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The railway administration entrusted several key responsibilities to female employees, allowing them to manage everything from train operations to safety and ticket checking.
A team of approximately 15 female railway staff took charge of the Ranchi-Irgavon train, which was entirely operated by women. This special initiative included a locomotive pilot, assistant locomotive pilot, train manager, ticket checking staff, and female personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The team successfully handled all responsibilities from the train’s departure to its safe operation and passenger management.
Senior DCM of the Ranchi rail division, Listi Singh, honored the female railway staff present at the station with roses. Passengers on the platform expressed their enthusiasm for this initiative, applauding the women’s team. Singh remarked that International Women’s Day is an opportunity to honor women’s struggles, achievements, and contributions to society.
She emphasized that the train operation by the special team of women was in line with this spirit. Singh stated that the rail division is committed to promoting women in every field and providing them with equal opportunities. Station Master Chanda Kumari Kachhap added that Women’s Day should not only be celebrated symbolically but should reflect a daily commitment to advancing women’s roles in society.
In Dhanbad, a similar initiative took place to mark Women’s Day. The Dhanbad-Sindri Town passenger train, which departed at 11:30 AM, was operated by a female crew. Janaki Ballabh Bari served as the train driver, while Vandana Kumari was the assistant driver, and Deepa Kumari took on the role of train manager. The return journey from Sindri Town to Dhanbad was also managed by women.
Additionally, female employees were assigned responsibilities at the Dhanbad station for ticket counters, train signaling, ticket checking, and security. According to railway officials, the aim of this initiative is to highlight women’s capabilities and leadership skills while reinforcing the message of providing equal opportunities in all fields.
