Udaipur, April 16: The police from the Falasiya police station in Udaipur have successfully apprehended a suspect who has been on the run for 13 years in a case involving the rape of a minor. The accused was arrested in Ahmedabad after the police employed a unique strategy to track him down.
For three days, the police team disguised themselves as various professionals, including electricity meter readers, milk and gas suppliers, and even land revenue officials, to gather information about the suspect across several areas in Gujarat, including Navapura, Mehsana, Unjha, and Siddhpur.
According to Station House Officer Sitaram, the accused, identified as Ramesh Bhai alias Jhalawadi Rebari, a resident of Unava in Mehsana, had been evading arrest since 2013 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The investigation revealed that a broker had lured the minor under the pretext of providing her with work and subsequently sold her to the accused in Gujarat. The minor managed to escape and returned home, where she disclosed the entire incident to her family, leading to the filing of a police report.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan, with significant contributions from ASI Kalulal, Head Constable Mukesh Kumar, and Constables Banshilal and Vikram. The arrest of the suspect after such a long time is being hailed as a major success for the police.
