Udaipur, April 11: Udaipur police have successfully apprehended notorious bandit Devisingh Kanjir, who had been on the run for 22 years, in connection with a sensational container robbery case. The police team from Govardhan Vilas police station conducted a covert operation in the Devas district of Madhya Pradesh, disguising themselves as sadhus to capture the wanted criminal. This operation proved to be entirely successful.
Brutal Robbery in 2004
The incident dates back to July 29, 2004, when driver Ravindra Kumar Yadav was transporting a container filled with textiles from Surat to Jaipur. Near Paduna, a group of 10-12 assailants blocked the vehicle with a Tata Sumo. They brutally assaulted the driver and his assistant, binding their hands and feet, blindfolding them, and abandoning them in a maize field before fleeing with the container.
Increased Reward Accelerates Search
Initially, a reward of ₹2,000 was announced for information leading to the arrest of the accused. However, in 2023, this amount was increased to ₹10,000 due to the severity of the case. Under the direction of SP Amrita Duhan, the police reopened the old case and strategized a special operation to locate the fugitive.
Arrest in Disguise
Led by trainee RPS Ramkumar Bhadu, the police team arrived in the Chhidavad village of Tonkkhurd in Devas. The team, including ASI Manohar Singh and Head Constable Naresh Kumar, disguised themselves as sadhus to conduct reconnaissance and gather confidential information from local temple priests. Acting on precise information received on April 10, the police surrounded the suspect near his home. When he attempted to flee upon noticing the police, the team swiftly apprehended him.
Multiple Criminal Cases Against the Accused
The arrested Devisingh Jhalla (57) is also wanted in several other criminal cases in Madhya Pradesh. He had been evading law enforcement for years. The police are now interrogating him to gather information about his accomplices and the broader robbery network.
