Virudhunagar, April 5: In the midst of the election atmosphere in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a public gathering in Chathirareddiapatti near Virudhunagar on Sunday. During his speech, he introduced candidates from the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and launched a strong attack on opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
While addressing the gathering, CM Stalin emphasized the unity and strength of the alliance, expressing confidence in a significant victory in the region. He specifically mentioned the Tiruchuli constituency, stating that opposition candidates are hesitant to contest against DMK candidate and state minister Thangam Thennarasu, which he cited as evidence of the minister’s strong public support and performance.
In a notable political gesture, CM Stalin referred to DMK candidate Vijay Prabhakaran as ‘brother’, signaling a different political tone amidst the electoral competition. His main focus remained on criticizing the AIADMK and its leadership.
The Chief Minister accused Palaniswami of making baseless allegations instead of highlighting his achievements. He pointed out that the DMK government’s initiatives, particularly the coupon scheme launched for housewives, are gaining immense popularity among the public. This scheme allows people to purchase essential goods as per their needs.
He remarked, “The public is pleased with this scheme, but Palaniswami seems upset, perhaps because there is no scope for any commission in it.”
CM Stalin also claimed that government employees will not support the AIADMK in the upcoming elections, as they have faith in the DMK government. He described Palaniswami’s comments regarding former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi as misleading and derogatory.
Furthermore, CM Stalin clarified that allegations regarding the absence of memorials for leaders like K. Kamaraj and Janaki Ramachandran at Chennai’s Marina Beach are unfounded. He reminded the audience that Karunanidhi paid his last respects to Kamaraj ‘like a son’, reflecting the DMK’s tradition.
