Cyclones in the NFL: Week 2 Recap

(Patrika English News): Fourteen former Iowa State Cyclones are on NFL depth charts this season, and Week 2 delivered mixed results. From strong special teams performances to injury setbacks, here’s how each player fared across the league.

Iowa State NFL players Week 2

Will McDonald (Jets):
Tough outing against the Bills. Played 40 defensive snaps with just one pressure. Also fined $14,491 for a “violent gesture.”

Breece Hall (Jets):
Limited impact with 10 carries for 29 yards and two receptions for nine yards across 30 snaps.

Kene Nwangwu (Jets):
Did not play due to a hamstring injury.

Allen Lazard (Jets):
Made his season debut after a lower-body injury. Logged 22 offensive snaps but no stats.

Charlie Kolar (Ravens):
Saw action in 33 offensive and 11 special teams snaps. No catches recorded.

TJ Tampa (Ravens):
Contributed one tackle and one assist in 16 defensive snaps. Also played 22 snaps on special teams.

Jake Hummel (Ravens):
Delivered a key blocked punt early in the game. Logged 26 snaps on special teams.

Xavier Hutchinson (Texans):
Looked like Houston’s WR2 on Monday night. Had three targets, catching two for 29 yards over 28 offensive snaps.

Jaylin Noel (Texans):
Shined on special teams with three punt returns for 67 yards, including a 53-yard run. Played 15 offensive snaps.

Jayden Higgins (Texans):
One catch for 28 yards across 21 offensive snaps.

Jalen Travis (Colts):
Worked exclusively on special teams with eight snaps.

David Montgomery (Lions):
Strong performance with 11 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown. Added one catch for four yards.

Brock Purdy (49ers):
Missed Week 2 due to turf toe. 49ers beat the Saints without him.

Malik Verdon (Falcons):
Has yet to play this season. On reserve/non-football injury list, out at least four games.

Darien Porter (Raiders):
Started at cornerback. Though snap counts are pending, he was rarely targeted — a good sign for a defensive back.

Eyioma Uwazurike (Broncos):
Finished with one tackle and one assist, but drew a costly penalty in the game.

Practice Squad Cyclones:

  • Ben Nikkel (Colts)

  • Myles Purchase (Chargers)

  • JR Singleton (Seahawks)

  • Julian Good-Jones (Commanders, IR)

Week 2 showed flashes of promise for several Cyclones, particularly Hutchinson and Noel, while others continue to find their rhythm or battle injuries.
