Excise Commissioner Urges Complete Compliance in Udaipur

Udaipur, April 16: Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta has directed officials to ensure complete compliance with the state government’s expectations, focusing on the total allocation of liquor shops, meeting revenue targets, and taking strict action against illegal liquor smuggling. He was addressing a review meeting for the Jodhpur zone held at the Marwar International Centre in Jodhpur, where a detailed analysis of district-wise progress was conducted.

Mehta indicated that regular reviews of all districts will be conducted, and actions will be taken against officials whose performance is found lacking.

Emphasis on Revenue Enhancement
He instructed excise inspectors to regularly inspect liquor shops to boost sales and revenue. Additionally, he emphasized the need to stop the sale of liquor without licenses in hotels, resorts, and restaurants, while also increasing the number of licenses issued.

Focus on Recovering ₹2,174 Crore in Dues
Prioritizing the recovery of approximately ₹2,174 crore in outstanding revenue, Mehta called for expedited collection under the amnesty scheme.

Crackdown on Illegal Smuggling
He directed the strengthening of informant networks and increased patrolling and raids, alongside special campaigns against illegal liquor and spurious alcohol.

Strict Adherence to Regulations
The meeting also discussed issues such as the closure of shops by 8 PM, occasional licenses, restrictions on hard liquor in restaurants, and the review of pending cases. Additional Excise Commissioner Seema Kavia presented a progress report through a PowerPoint presentation during the meeting, which was attended by all senior officials from the Jodhpur zone.
