Sehore, March 26: Nearly 200 people fell ill after consuming food at a wedding ceremony in Sehore, a district near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The affected individuals reported symptoms of abdominal pain and vomiting, with 50 requiring hospitalization for treatment.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Babadiya Noabad village during a wedding attended by over 1,000 guests. While most attendees enjoyed the meal, approximately 200 experienced severe discomfort, prompting medical intervention. Many were taken to health centers for primary care, with some being transferred to the district hospital in Sehore for further treatment.
Reports indicate that the consumption of gulab jamun may have triggered the health issues, raising concerns about food safety. The food department has begun collecting samples for analysis to determine the cause of the illness, especially since the food was prepared on the same day.
Upon learning of the situation, local authorities mobilized medical staff, including doctors and paramedics, to provide immediate care. Most of those affected were elderly, but many have since been discharged from the hospital.
