Governor Anurag Bose to Issue Advisory to Prevent Tragedies Like Anandpur Fire

Kolkata, 30 January: The death toll in the fire incident at a momo-making unit and two warehouses in Anandpur, Kolkata, has risen to 25. West Bengal Governor Dr C.V. Anurag Bose visited the site to assess the situation and gather information from officials present there.

Speaking to the media, Governor C.V. Anurag Bose described the incident as “shocking, tragic, and deeply disturbing.” He said, “Precious human lives have been lost in the fire. All parties involved must take responsibility. There were steps that should have been taken before, during, and after the fire which were neglected, leading to this disaster.”

The Governor emphasized that law enforcement agencies, warehouse owners, and others share equal responsibility for the tragedy. “The law must be enforced,” he stated. “As Governor, I am preparing an advisory that will be released immediately. We cannot turn a blind eye to such incidents.”

He further added, “This fire incident is saddening, disappointing, and alarming. Such events must never recur. Everyone must take proactive measures to ensure accidents like this are prevented. Timely and effective actions should be taken to avoid future tragedies.”

The Governor also expressed condolences for the victims, saying, “Reports confirm 25 deaths and 27 people missing. Our sympathies are with the families who have lost their loved ones. We will provide all necessary support to them in the future.” He mentioned interacting with local residents and victims, listening to their concerns, and obtaining initial information about relief and rescue efforts.

The fire broke out early morning on 26 January inside a warehouse in Anandpur. Several workers who were asleep inside were trapped. According to the West Bengal Fire Service and forensic team’s initial report, the fire originated from the nearby Pushpanjali Decorator warehouse, not from the ‘Wow Momo’ factory. However, the owner of the Pushpanjali warehouse, Gangadhar Das, who was arrested following the incident, claimed that the fire started from the momo factory.

The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and testimonies.
