BJP Alleges Rs 6,000 Crore Liquor Scam in Karnataka, Sudhanshu Trivedi Criticises Congress Model

New Delhi, 30 January: BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi addressed the media at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Friday, targeting the Congress government in Karnataka over a Rs 6,000 crore liquor scam.

Trivedi stated that while the BJP was in the opposition at the Centre, the Gujarat model was widely discussed. However, he pointed out the kind of governance the Congress presents in the states it rules. The Rs 6,000 crore liquor scam was not alleged by the central government but by liquor traders within Karnataka itself.

He explained that the Wine Merchants Association revealed how money was channelled from restaurants and hotels to ministers and officials at various levels of the government through liquor allotment schemes.

Sudhanshu Trivedi emphasised that when people vote for any party, they expect development and good governance. He cited examples from Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP implemented schemes to secure the future of girl children, and from Karnataka in 2008, when the BJP government successfully provided interest-free loans to farmers for a year.

He criticised the Congress model as one marked by continuous power struggles between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, citing Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan as examples. He accused the Congress of betraying the people of Karnataka, who had given the party a large mandate.

Trivedi also referred to a recent order by the Calcutta High Court directing the West Bengal government to clarify land allotment procedures for border fencing by 31 March 2026. He claimed this order exposed how the Trinamool Congress compromised national security in exchange for votes from illegal immigrants.

The BJP spokesperson expressed confidence that the people of West Bengal would reject the Trinamool Congress for risking national security and would elect the BJP in the upcoming elections.

He described the situation as a grave concern, highlighting that under Trinamool Congress rule, national security was sacrificed for narrow political gains tied to the votes of illegal immigrants. He called the high court’s decision a strong rebuke of the party’s policies.
