
New Delhi, April 4: In an exhilarating match of the Indian Super League 2025-26, Punjab FC staged a remarkable comeback in the second half to defeat Mohun Bagan Sporting Club 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
With this victory, Punjab FC climbed to fifth place in the league table with 11 points, while Mohun Bagan remains at the bottom without any points. Punjab’s captain, Dani Ramírez, was named ‘Player of the Match’.
The match began with Punjab showcasing aggressive gameplay, creating several opportunities. However, against the run of play, Mohun Bagan took the lead in the 29th minute. A long pass from right-back Hira Mandal found Lalremsanga Fanai, who finished brilliantly to put his team ahead 1-0.
Despite Punjab’s attempts to equalize before halftime, they were unable to score and went into the break trailing by one goal.
In the second half, Punjab’s coach made strategic changes that had an immediate impact. Just two minutes after the restart, Nasungusi Junior scored to level the match at 1-1.
Five minutes later, Punjab turned the game around. Dani Ramírez capitalized on a pass from Osuji, finishing easily to give Punjab a 2-1 lead.
In the closing moments, Mohun Bagan attempted to equalize, but they were thwarted by Punjab’s solid defense.
Ultimately, Punjab FC secured a 2-1 victory, earning three crucial points and demonstrating a fantastic comeback.
