
Ahmedabad, March 9: India clinched the T20 World Cup 2026 title under the captaincy of Surya Kumar Yadav. Following this significant victory, Surya expressed his confidence in the capabilities of his players. He praised key performances from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah.
In the final match held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, India scored 255 runs, losing 5 wickets, thanks to impressive innings from Sanju Samson (89), Abhishek Sharma (52), and Ishan Kishan (54). In response, New Zealand was bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs, giving India a commanding 96-run victory.
After becoming the third captain to lead India to a T20 World Cup title, Surya Kumar Yadav stated, “It has been a long journey. It started after the T20 World Cup 2024. Jay Shah and Rohit Sharma trusted me and gave me the opportunity to lead the team. From there, this long journey began, and winning the trophy here is fantastic. We have been playing good cricket over the last two years, and we just wanted to continue those good cricketing habits from the 2024 World Cup. The players embraced it very well.”
Regarding maintaining trust in his players, Captain Surya emphasized, “It is very important to understand what players are capable of. I knew they had the ability to win matches. They delivered at the right time. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are excellent players, and we knew they would do something special, and they did just that in the final.”
In the championship match, Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets for just 15 runs in his 4 overs. Throughout the tournament, Bumrah played 8 matches, claiming 14 wickets at an impressive average of 12.43. Surya praised him, saying, “Jasprit Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation bowler. I can call him a national treasure. He knows exactly what to do and is the best at his job.”
