Tejashwi Slams Bihar Government Over Power Rate Hike

Patna, March 30: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, has criticized the state government for its decision to increase Electricity Rates during peak hours. The national executive president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of backtracking on their promises.

In a statement, Yadav highlighted that the government had previously pledged to provide 125 units of free electricity during the election campaign but has now reverted to its true colors within just four months. He detailed the new rates, stating that consumers will now pay ₹8.10 per unit for six hours of peak consumption from 5 PM to 11 PM, ₹7.10 per unit from 11 PM to 9 AM, and ₹5.94 per unit for the remaining eight hours.

Yadav warned that those who were temporarily pleased with the government’s promises would soon face harsher realities. He expressed concern over the government’s empty treasury, suggesting that corrupt officials would seize whatever little remains.

He further accused the election commission of unethical practices and alleged that a cartel of corrupt officials had undermined democratic values by distributing ₹41,000 crores from the government treasury in the final 35 days leading up to the election.

Tejashwi asserted that the current administration would soon reveal its true, corrupt nature, leading to an unprecedented surge in bribery and unchecked corruption in Bihar.
