5 lakh fine on adulterated ghee under the campaign against pure food adulteration

Jaipur, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran News). As per the instructions of the Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Control Department in Rajasthan, “War on Pure Food Adulteration” campaign is being run continuously across the state. In the same sequence, Food Safety Officer Ramesh Chandra Yadav had taken a sample of ghee from M/s Vishal Traders located at Fagi Bus Stand of Dudu subdivision on 17 June 2023. This sample was found non-standard in laboratory testing.

In this case, the complaint presented by the Food Safety Officer was heard in the court of Additional District Magistrate, Dudu (Jaipur). Upon conviction, the court imposed a fine of fifty thousand rupees on the seller M/s Vishal Traders, Fagi, Dudu. Along with this, M/s R., a firm related to ghee supply. A fine of fifty thousand rupees was also imposed on Sales, Rajasthani Mandi, Sikar Road, Jaipur. Both the partners of this firm were punished with a fine of fifty thousand rupees each.

Apart from this, a fine of two lakh fifty thousand rupees was imposed on the ghee manufacturing company M/s Om Sarathi Dairy Products Private Limited, Tapi (Gujarat) and a fine of fifty thousand rupees was imposed on the authorized nominee of the company, Shailesh Bhai Ashok Bhai Penshalwar.

It should be noted that according to the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, there is a provision of a maximum fine of up to Rs 5 lakh in cases of non-standard food items. At the same time, in case unsafe food items are found, a provision has been made for imprisonment of six months to three years and a fine of up to ten lakh rupees.
