Kolkata, April 4: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has filed his nomination for the West Bengal Assembly elections, revealing details of his assets in an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission. According to the affidavit, Chowdhury has approximately ₹94,500 in cash and vehicles valued at ₹22 lakh.
Chowdhury’s affidavit states that he possesses ₹94,500 in cash, while his wife holds ₹7,25,000 in cash. His various bank accounts contain deposits of ₹21,816.48 and ₹2,026.09, along with ₹6,18,769.73 in the Parliament House branch account, totaling around ₹6.42 lakh in bank deposits.
In addition to the cash, Chowdhury owns vehicles worth ₹22 lakh and jewelry valued at over ₹27 lakh, bringing his total assets to over ₹48 crore, while his wife holds real estate valued at ₹6 crore.
However, Chowdhury is also facing legal challenges, with five FIRs registered against him—four at the Berhampore police station and one at the Harishchandrapur police station. The cases involve serious allegations, including the use of objectionable language, making criminal threats, conducting illegal assemblies, obstructing public pathways, preventing public servants from performing their duties, inciting riots, and making statements that incite hostility between different groups.
Chowdhury has previously served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and faced defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. For the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, he has been fielded by Congress from the Baharampur constituency.
