Al Ain, UAE, September 12 (Patrika English News): Al Ain Zoo has reinforced its commitment to sustainability and biodiversity through a series of botanical conservation initiatives, led by the Al Ghafa Nursery Project. The nursery now houses more than 10,000 trees, representing 100 plant species and 120 seed varieties, both local and non-local.

Among its key efforts, the Safari Greening Project saved AED 136,844 by sourcing plants directly from the nursery. The Zoo also produces 4,300 kilograms of organic fertilizers annually for internal use. Its landscape design project has cut irrigation water usage by 95% and reduced maintenance costs by over AED 14,000, highlighting efficiency gains from eco-friendly landscaping with native plants and recycled materials.
Community engagement remains central to the Zoo’s mission. It has donated plant varieties such as Al Gadaf palms, distributed fresh dates within departments, and sold 1,787 seedlings to visitors to promote plant stewardship.
Al Ain Zoo has also strengthened collaboration with schools, universities, and government bodies, hosting 45 educational workshops, taking part in 20 institutional events, conducting 36 benchmarking activities, and receiving official delegations to promote environmental awareness.
Through these projects, Al Ain Zoo continues to combine conservation, sustainability, and education, positioning itself as a leader in biodiversity preservation and community engagement in the UAE.
