Causes and Remedies for Premature White Hair

New Delhi, March 23: The issue of premature white hair has become increasingly common among younger individuals today. Contrary to popular belief, white hair is not merely a sign of aging but often indicates a deficiency in nutrition.

Several factors can contribute to the greying of hair, with Ayurveda linking it primarily to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha and an unhealthy lifestyle. An unbalanced Pitta dosha is not only a leading cause of premature greying but can also lead to various digestive disorders.

According to Ayurveda, the main reasons for premature greying include an increase in Pitta dosha, poor diet, stress, and an unhealthy lifestyle. By regulating one’s lifestyle and balancing the Vata dosha, the progression of white hair can be effectively halted. Ayurveda offers various methods to address this issue, emphasizing the importance of nourishment for the body both internally and externally.

The first step is to balance the Pitta dosha. This can be achieved by consuming less spicy and oily foods, while also reducing intake of tea, sour foods, coffee, and salty items, as these can all exacerbate Pitta levels. Ayurvedic dietary recommendations for combating white hair include incorporating amla, beetroot, ghee, black raisins, shatavari, and triphala powder into one’s diet. Additionally, massaging the scalp with pure coconut oil and bhringraj oil twice a week can significantly help in managing the problem of white hair.

Mental stress is another contributing factor to premature greying. Inadequate sleep, excessive strain on the eyes, anger, and irritability can adversely affect mental health. It is crucial to ensure adequate sleep and manage anger. Engaging in deep breathing outdoors and spending time in nature can also help maintain calmness.
