How to Eat Salad for Optimal Health Benefits

New Delhi, March 29: As summer approaches, the consumption of salad increases significantly. Salads are rich in fiber, minerals, and vitamins, which contribute to overall Health. However, consuming salad incorrectly can diminish its nutritional value. This is why Ayurveda emphasizes the timing and method of food consumption.

Many people tend to add excessive salt, chaat masala, or lemon to their salads, which can reduce the nutrients, leaving mostly fiber behind. If you are one of those who consume salad this way, your body may miss out on its true nutritional benefits. According to Ayurveda, salads should be eaten in their simple and natural form. It is recommended to chop the salad into small pieces and mix it, using green chilies or black pepper for flavor. Including fresh coriander and raw coconut can further enhance its nutritional properties.

Some individuals may experience digestive issues due to raw salads. In such cases, lightly steaming the salad can be beneficial. Instead of boiling it in water, use a steamer to preserve the nutrients while making it easier to digest.

Avoid adding lemon, salt, Maggi masala, and chaat masala to your salad, as these can inadvertently increase sodium levels in the body. Since we already consume salt and spices in our meals, adding extra seasoning can be detrimental to health. Additionally, it is advisable to eat salad at least one hour before your main meal rather than alongside it. This practice allows the body to absorb the nutrients fully and can also stimulate appetite.

Consuming salad can help manage weight, improve digestion, enhance eyesight, and support heart health.
