India Should Decide on Oil Purchases, Not Seek US Approval: Raut

Mumbai, March 6: Sanjay Raut, a Member of Parliament from Shiv Sena (UBT), has strongly criticized the United States for granting India a one-month grace period regarding oil purchases from Russia. He linked this issue to india’s foreign policy and political independence, expressing deep concern over the implications of such external influence.

Speaking to the media, Raut stated that it is unacceptable for any foreign country to dictate when and how much oil India can buy. He emphasized that it is incomprehensible for another nation to grant India such ‘permission.’ According to him, such permissions are typically given by a powerful country to a subordinate or weaker nation.

Raut argued that if it is being said that India has been given a month’s leeway to purchase oil from Russia, it indicates that India’s foreign policy is being influenced by another country. He described this as a troubling sign for India’s political autonomy.

He further asserted that seeking US permission to buy oil from Russia suggests that India is subservient to the US, implying that India will follow whatever directives are issued by the US. He lamented the lack of India’s voice and role in its foreign policy decisions.

Raut insisted that if India needs energy and purchasing oil from Russia is beneficial, the decision should rest solely with the Indian government, rather than being contingent on approval from another country. He urged India’s political leadership and government to adopt a clear and strong stance on this matter, asserting that the country’s foreign policy must remain entirely independent and free from external pressures. He stressed that India should make international decisions based on its own interests.
