
Imphal, March 17: Manipur’s security forces and police have apprehended five cadres associated with valley-based militant groups (VBIG). Additionally, a key suspect involved in a recent arson incident on National Highway-2 has also been arrested, according to the Manipur police.
On March 16, security forces conducted an operation in a sensitive border area under the jurisdiction of the Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district. During this operation, five Militants were arrested from the region located between border pillars 73 and 75 along the India-Myanmar border.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangjam Ashok Kumar Singh alias Khongthang from Waikhong village, Laishram Nipamacha Singh alias Loiya from Sagolamang Awang Leikai, Thangjam Manimatum Meitei alias Sana from Sugnu Awang Leikai, Laishram Inao Singh alias Sanamacha from Urup Makha Leikai, and Chingangbam Shakti Singh alias Faren from Lamlai Nongda.
In a separate case, following an investigation into the arson of a truck on March 2 in Kabinm village, Senapati district, the Manipur police arrested the main accused, Ramayo Washum (51), on March 14. He is a resident of Kathiko Karong in Senapati district.
Authorities confirmed that during the operation, a Maruti Gypsy vehicle and two mobile phones used in the crime were seized. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the case.
Earlier, on March 16, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took significant action against an alleged illegal financial network operating in Manipur, temporarily attaching assets worth ₹50.80 crore. This action pertains to the Salai Group of Companies, Smart Society, and other associated entities, with the ED issuing a third provisional attachment order in this regard.
