Dungarpur, April 10: The newly constructed boys’ hostel in the Obari area, built at a cost of ₹66 lakh, is facing serious allegations of substandard construction and collusion. Following the revelations, responsible officials have opted for a cover-up instead of addressing the issues, raising significant concerns about the safety of the children residing there.
Cracks have appeared in four rooms within just a few months of completion, a project awarded to Shri Vinayak Construction by the Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board. After the news broke, the contractor hastily filled the cracks with cement and putty, but this is merely a temporary fix. Local residents claim that the foundation of the building was not constructed according to standards, compromising the entire structure’s integrity.
Superficial Investigations
The board officials claimed to have initiated an investigation by sending the Junior Engineer (JEN) and Assistant Engineer (AEN) to the site. However, instead of taking concrete action, they assigned the responsibility of repairs back to the contractor, raising questions about the role of technical officials and suggesting possible collusion.
Parental Concerns and Silence from Representatives
Parents of the children living in the hostel are deeply agitated, asserting that merely filling the cracks does not ensure the building’s safety, and their children’s lives remain at risk. The lack of concrete action from local representatives has further fueled public discontent.
Officials Avoid Accountability
Attempts to contact Executive Engineer (XEN) Gopal Singh for comments were unsuccessful, as he disconnected the call and later did not respond.
The situation continues to unfold, with community members demanding accountability and action to ensure the safety of the hostel’s residents.
