New Delhi, March 18: In a significant development, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, held an informal meeting with Congress MPs whose suspensions were recently lifted. The discussion took place over tea and coffee, allowing for an in-depth conversation about the recent events surrounding their suspensions.
This meeting occurred a day after the Lok Sabha’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kiren Rijiju, proposed the revocation of the suspensions of eight Congress MPs. The decision followed an expression of regret from the Congress leadership regarding the ruckus that occurred during the budget session.
During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi sought to gather insights from the MPs about the incidents that transpired during their suspension. The MPs provided detailed accounts of the situation in the House, explaining the circumstances that led to their suspension.
The MPs whose suspensions were lifted include Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Yadaworaw Padole, S. Venkatesh, and Dean Kuriakos. They were suspended on February 3 during the budget session for allegedly disrupting proceedings and throwing papers at the Speaker.
Following the lifting of their suspensions, the Congress MPs welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude towards the party leadership and its president. However, they emphasized the critical role of the opposition in democracy, asserting their commitment to raising public issues.
The MPs stated that active participation in debates and discussions in Parliament is essential for voicing the concerns of the public. They reiterated their intention to question government policies and to register protests wherever necessary.
