Fire Tragedy in Palam Claims Six Lives, CM Expresses Grief

New Delhi, March 18: A devastating fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in the Palam area of Delhi on Wednesday, leading to the tragic loss of six lives. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her deep sorrow over the incident and assured that appropriate measures would be taken to rescue those trapped inside the building.

In a post on her social media account, CM Gupta stated, “I am extremely saddened to learn about the unfortunate incident of a fire in a multi-storey residential building in Palam. Reports suggest that six people have lost their lives, while some are still trapped inside. The district administration, Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Police are leading the rescue operation. A magistrate inquiry has been ordered into the incident. I pray for everyone’s safety!”

The fire erupted at 7:04 AM in a building located at Ram Market, owned by Rajendra Kashyap. The ground and first floors housed his clothing and cosmetics showroom, while his family resided on the second and third floors. Upon receiving the fire alert, the local police station dispatched the Station House Officer and his team to the scene immediately.

So far, ten individuals have been safely rescued and admitted to nearby hospitals. Unfortunately, six people were pronounced dead at Manipal Hospital, including Pravesh (35), Kamal (40), Ashu (32), and three minor girls aged 12, 6, and 5. Additionally, a 38-year-old woman died at IGI Hospital, while a 40-year-old man and a 2-year-old girl are currently undergoing treatment. A 19-year-old male is also hospitalized at Safdarjung Hospital with 25% burn injuries.

Emergency response was swift, with approximately 20 fire engines, 11 CAT ambulances, and teams from BSES, Air Force Police, and NDRF arriving at the site. After intensive efforts, the fire was brought under control.

A forensic science team has been called in for investigation, and all relevant agencies, along with local police, remain present at the scene.
