New Delhi/Tiruvananthapuram, 29 January: Senior Congress leader and Tiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday sought to end speculation about his relationship with the party leadership after a closed-door meeting at the Parliament premises with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
In a post on social media following the meeting, Tharoor described the discussions as ‘cordial and constructive’ and thanked Kharge and Rahul Gandhi for the exchange on various issues. He emphasized that the party is united and moving forward with the aim of serving the people of India.
The post came after an approximately two-hour meeting between Tharoor, Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi inside the Parliament House.
Tharoor arrived at the Lok Sabha complex around 11 am and was seen briefly interacting with Kerala colleague MP M.K. Raghavan in the house. He then proceeded to Kharge’s chamber at about 11:15 am.
Rahul Gandhi joined shortly afterward. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, who was initially present, left the room shortly after the discussion began to allow the three leaders to continue their talks privately.
Tharoor emerged from the meeting around 1:15 pm looking relaxed.
Speaking to waiting media outside, Tharoor dismissed rumours of differences within the party. “We had a meeting and everyone expressed their views. Now we are all on the same page,” he said.
When asked if he would actively participate in the Congress campaign for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, Tharoor responded positively, reaffirming his commitment to his voters and the party’s political programmes in the state.
