New Delhi, 29 January: Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will undertake a one-day visit to Chhattisgarh on 31 January. During his trip, he will engage directly with farmers in Raipur, Durg, and Naya Raipur and review the progress of agricultural and rural development schemes with the Chief Minister, state ministers, senior government officials, and representatives.
According to the schedule, Minister Chouhan will arrive in Raipur on Saturday and then proceed to Girhola and Khapri villages in Durg district. He will take part in field visits and plantation activities, interacting with farmers to discuss key central government schemes such as the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi, National Agriculture Development Programme, natural farming, and micro-irrigation (PMKSY). The objective is to increase farmers’ participation in these initiatives.
In the afternoon, the Union Minister will travel from Khapri village to Kumhari in Durg district, where he will attend a farmers’ fair organised by the Chhattisgarh Youth Progressive Farmers Association. At this event, he will share his views on modern farming techniques, crop diversification, farmer producer organisations (FPOs), digital agriculture, and strategies to enhance farmers’ incomes through the rural livelihood mission.
During the farmers’ fair and dialogue, Minister Chouhan will highlight several central government schemes, including direct benefit transfer to small and marginal farmers under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi, crop insurance under the Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana to protect against natural disasters, the National Agriculture Development Programme, the Digital Agriculture Mission, and the use of drone technology. He will also focus on rural infrastructure and livelihood enhancement through the Ministry of Rural Development’s flagship programmes such as the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Gramin), Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana, and the National Rural Livelihood Mission.
The Minister will emphasise how these initiatives contribute to increasing the income and prosperity of farmers and rural communities across Chhattisgarh and the country, strengthening villages through roads, housing, and self-help groups.
In the evening, Minister Chouhan will participate in a high-level review meeting at Mahanadi Bhavan in Naya Raipur with Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai and state agriculture and rural development ministers. The meeting will assess the progress of central and state schemes related to agriculture and rural development. Discussions will cover road construction under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana, housing approvals and construction under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Gramin), empowerment of women self-help groups under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, expansion of organic and natural farming, availability of seeds and fertilisers, credit facilities, and the Agri-Infrastructure Fund.
This visit marks a significant step in advancing new commitments and concrete action plans for agriculture and rural development in Chhattisgarh. It also forms part of the Union Minister’s broader strategy to promote state-wise and regional agricultural and rural progress across India.
