
Guwahati, March 21: The political landscape for the Assam Assembly elections in 2026 is heating up as the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has released its first list of candidates. This announcement was made under the guidance of the party’s national president and West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.
The TMC has declared candidates for a total of 17 assembly seats across various districts, including reserved constituencies. Notable candidates include Udangsri Narzari from the Baokhungri seat in Kokrajhar district, Mominur Islam from Bilasipara in Dhubri district, Arif Akhtar Ahmed from Jaleswar in Goalpara district, Kaushik Ranjan Das from Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district, and Kalyani Kalita from Bajali in Bajali district.
Additionally, the party has fielded Dulu Ahmed from Chamaria in Kamrup district, Bhoglal Rabha from Boko-Chaygaon (ST) in Kamrup district, Amirul Islam from Barkhetri in Nalbari district, Rajan Chauhan from Goreswar (ST) in Tamulpur district, and Hare Krishna Deka from Mangaldai in Darang district.
The list also includes Narendra Kumar Paw from Dhemaji (ST), Jiten Nag from Digboi in Tinsukia district, Dilip Moran from Makum, Tapas Das from Uddharband in Cachar district, Fazlur Rahman Laskar from Katigorah, and Shahjahan Laskar from Sonai.
This initial list showcases the party’s strong presence in various regions, particularly in the Brahmaputra Valley, Bodoland, and southern Assam (Barak Valley). Many candidates appear to focus on local issues and community representation. The Assam TMC has wished all candidates success, urging them to serve the public diligently. The party aims to present itself as a third option in Assam, alongside the BJP and Congress, especially in areas with significant ethnic and linguistic diversity.
