In response to the news, Trump posted, “Robert Mueller just died. Good. I’m glad he’s dead. Now he can’t hurt innocent people.” These comments were met with immediate backlash, with critics deeming them inappropriate given Mueller’s extensive record of public service.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie condemned Trump’s statement during an appearance on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” He stated, “To say such a thing about someone is extremely disgraceful.” Christie emphasized that the use of such language by a sitting president is even more reprehensible, especially regarding a respected military veteran.
Mueller served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart after being injured in combat, along with other honors such as the Bronze Star and Navy Commendation Medal.
