Jammu, March 13: In a shocking incident, an attempt was made on the life of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah during a private function in Jammu. His son, current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, took to social media to express gratitude for the public’s well wishes regarding his father’s health.
Omar Abdullah shared that his father is overwhelmed by the support and prayers received from the community. He stated, “Unfortunately, he is unable to respond to everyone personally and has asked me to convey his thanks through this post. My entire family stands with him in expressing our gratitude.”
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a man attempted to attack Farooq Abdullah at an event where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary was also present. The suspect is currently in police custody.
Earlier, Omar Abdullah revealed that the attack was thwarted due to the swift action of the close protection team assigned to his father under the Z+ security cover. He wrote, “God is merciful. My father narrowly escaped. Details are still unclear, but it appears that a man with a loaded pistol managed to get close enough to fire at point-blank range. It was only the close protection team that prevented the shooting and ensured the assassination attempt failed.”
Omar Abdullah also raised concerns about the Security Breach, questioning how the assailant managed to get so close to a leader with such high-level security. He emphasized that there are more questions than answers at this time, including how someone could approach a former Chief Minister with Z+ NSG security so closely.
