Quetta, March 11: A shootout in Khuzdar district of Balochistan has resulted in the deaths of two individuals allegedly connected to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Local media reported that the incident occurred on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) highway.
According to The Balochistan Post, armed fighters checked vehicles passing through a checkpoint in Khuzdar’s Karkh Tehsil on Monday. During this operation, two suspects linked to the ISI were apprehended. When they attempted to flee, they were shot, and one individual was taken into custody. Following the incident, the Pakistani military reportedly moved into the area, leading to significant clashes.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. This incident follows a recent attack by the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) on March 4, where they infiltrated the city of Karkh and destroyed government property, including police stations.
In a separate incident, The Balochistan Post cited official sources stating that an explosive attack targeted a convoy of the Frontier Corps (FC) in the Tezban area of Kech district. The explosion caused considerable damage to the vehicle and injured two individuals.
Additionally, armed assailants reportedly attacked two Pakistani military checkpoints in the Khan and Shepchur areas of Kech, seizing weapons and other supplies before setting the checkpoints ablaze.
The Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) also reported conducting two attacks targeting the Pakistani military in Quetta and Nasirabad districts on March 8 and 9. In a statement, BRG spokesperson Dostain Baloch mentioned that the group threw a hand grenade at a police patrol in Quetta.
Later, they launched an assault on a force checkpoint in the Mir Hassan area of Nasirabad using small arms and grenade launchers, resulting in the deaths of two Pakistani security personnel and injuries to another.
Meanwhile, the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for two attacks on a Pakistani military camp and a security force checkpoint in Kech on March 7 and 8, asserting that significant damage was inflicted on enemy infrastructure.
In a media statement, BLF spokesperson Major Gwaharim Baloch claimed that fighters fired multiple grenade launchers at a checkpoint manned by the Joint Frontier Corps and Airport Security Force at the main gate of Turbat Airport on March 8, resulting in numerous casualties among enemy ranks and substantial losses of their equipment.
Both groups have characterized their attacks against Pakistani forces as part of an ongoing armed struggle against “occupying forces” in Balochistan.
