Jaipur, October 13 (Patrika English News ). In view of the festival of Diwali in the state, to protect the interests of consumers, the Consumer affairs Department is running an intensive consumer care campaign against violation of rules in business establishments. Departmental officers are inspecting the shops and taking strict action against the shopkeepers who do not follow the rules. In the same sequence, on Monday, under the direction of departmental officers, teams formed in different districts of the state conducted surprise inspection of 97 business establishments and action was taken under the Legal Metrology Act 2009 and Packaged Goods Rules 2011. During this period, a case was registered and notice was issued against 72 firms for not having verification certificate and verified weighing scale and a fine of Rs 186500 was imposed. Also, forks of 5 firms were seized.
It is noteworthy that a consumer care campaign against incorrect measurement, weight and packaging standards will be run especially in the entire state from 13 to 19 October. For this, special teams of officers have been formed at the division and district level. The objective of this campaign run by the department is to compel traders to use correct measurements in the interest of consumers and also to make consumers aware of their basic rights. The purity, standard, quantity and correct measurement and weight of the services and goods received by paying money is the legal right of the consumer. On violation of these rights, the consumer can complain to the Consumer Affairs Department.
