
Amaravati, 29 January: A tragic road accident in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others after a fire broke out following a collision between two container trucks.
According to police, the accident occurred near Kathipudi on National Highway-216. A container truck travelling from Bhimavaram to Mulapeta was turning at the Kathipudi junction when it collided head-on with another container carrying cotton bales en route from Kolkata to Chennai. The impact was so severe that both vehicles caught fire immediately, causing panic in the area.
The driver of the cotton-laden container, Kamal Sheikh (43), a resident of Kolkata, was burnt to death on the spot. Two other individuals sustained serious injuries in the crash. Passersby promptly alerted the police and fire department, who arrived quickly and managed to control the blaze after considerable effort. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Circle Inspector Surya Appa Rao of Prathipadu stated that a case has been registered and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
In a separate incident within the same district, a speeding truck collided with an auto-rickshaw near Rayadupalem in Kakinada town, resulting in the death of a young girl and injuries to eight others. The victims were admitted to the Government General Hospital in Kakinada for medical care.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring state of Telangana’s Nalgonda district, an RTC bus lost control near Yerrasani Gudem in Kattanguru mandal and hit a road divider while the driver tried to avoid colliding with a stationary truck. Fortunately, no passengers were injured in this accident.
Additionally, on Wednesday night in Hyderabad’s outskirts, a moving car caught fire suddenly on Narsingi Service Road close to Narsingi Rotary in Rangareddy district. The driver, Ashwin, noticed the flames while inspecting the vehicle, escaped unharmed, but the car was completely destroyed before firefighters could extinguish the blaze.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance across the region.
