Three Arrested in West Bengal over Alleged Harassment of Mimi Chakraborty

Kolkata, January 29: The police have arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged harassment of actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty. The arrests were made on Thursday following a confrontation at the residence of Tanay Shastri and his two associates.

The incident occurred during a programme held in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas district, where the police are investigating Mimi Chakraborty’s complaint of harassment. The actress was present at the event held in the Nayagopalganj area on Sunday night.

Mimi Chakraborty, who is currently busy promoting her recently released film ‘Bhanupriya Bhuter Hotel’, has not officially responded to the incident so far.

According to Mimi, while she was performing on stage, the event organiser Tanay Shastri suddenly came on stage and stopped her, asking her to leave. She said, “I was performing when Tanay Shastri came on stage and stopped me. He told me to leave. Without completing my performance, I left. His behaviour was very insulting.”

Following the incident, she filed a written complaint through email at the local police station. Mimi also alleged that unlike other artists, she was treated unfairly because she refused to be a guest at Shastri’s house. The situation has remained tense since Monday.

On the other hand, Tanay Shastri, the event organiser, denied the allegations, calling them completely baseless and false. He stated that Mimi Chakraborty was scheduled to arrive at 10:30 pm but came around 11:45 pm, nearly one and a half hours late. Shastri claimed that despite the delay, she was given full respect and escorted to the stage.

However, when the police went to Shastri’s residence to investigate, he obstructed their work. Consequently, Shastri and two others were arrested by the police.
