Kathmandu (Patrika English News): The death toll in Nepal’s ongoing youth-led protests has climbed to 51, according to the country’s Ministry of Health and Population. Among the dead are three police officers, nine escaped prisoners, and one Indian woman.

The ministry confirmed on Friday that the fatalities occurred both in the Kathmandu Valley and in several other districts. On the first day of demonstrations, 21 people were killed by police gunfire, including nine inmates who had fled from jails.
So far, 1,771 protesters have been injured, of whom 284 have been discharged after treatment. At least five deaths occurred inside a juvenile correctional facility during clashes.
Postmortem Examinations Underway
Nepal Police spokesperson Vinod Ghimire said postmortem procedures have begun at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). The hospital’s forensic department confirmed that 36 bodies have been received so far, including one unidentified body.
At present, postmortems on nine bodies are in progress. Officials stated that autopsies are conducted only when family members present authorization letters from their respective district police offices.
The rising toll underscores the intensity of Nepal’s political crisis, with unrest spreading beyond the capital and security forces struggling to contain escalating violence.
