
Kota, 20 October (Patrika English News ). An important meeting will be organized on October 28 regarding the sharing of Chambal river water between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Officials of both the states will participate in the meeting and the water available in the four major dams of Chambal will be assessed. On the basis of this, it will be decided how much water each state will get during the Rabi season.
This meeting of the Interstate Technical Committee will be presided over by the Chief Engineer of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh Government has decided the agenda of the meeting and sent it to the Secretary of the Technical Committee, after which the Secretary has informed the Chief Engineer of Rajasthan and concerned officials about the meeting.
Even before the meeting, Madhya Pradesh government has written a letter to Rajasthan and agreed to release water for Rabi season. Along with this, the Chief Engineer of Yamuna Alluvial Water Resources Department, Gwalior has demanded 2000 cusecs of water from Parvati Aqueduct for Chambal irrigation area. Keeping this in mind, CAD has started water flow in the right main canal from October 18.
At present the water flow capacity of the right main canal is 6656 cusecs and the capacity of the left main canal is 1500 cusecs. 3900 cusecs of water is being released from Madhya Pradesh. Due to this, about 2.5 lakh hectares of land in Rajasthan is irrigated, while the same amount of land in Madhya Pradesh also gets water. The length of the right main canal towards Rajasthan is about 124 kilometers, from which about three lakh farmers of Kota, Bundi and Baran districts are benefited.
If we look at the status of major dams of Chambal project, the water level of Gandhi Sagar is 1311.55 feet, that of Rana Pratap Sagar is 1156.74 feet, that of Jawahar Sagar is 977.60 feet and the water level of Kota Barrage is 854 feet.
Interstate Technical Committee Secretary Satyendra Pareek said that in the meeting to be held on October 28, not only the water distribution for Rabi season will be discussed, but the decision regarding the maintenance and repair budget of the canals will also be taken.
