Udaipur, April 13: Following allegations of a multi-crore scam linked to the Jal Jeevan Mission in Rajasthan, a thorough investigation has been ordered into the projects carried out in the Udaipur division. The government and investigative agencies have clarified that they will closely review the construction works, pipeline installations, development of water sources, and transparency in expenditures under the mission.
It is noteworthy that retired IAS officer Subodh Agarwal has already been arrested in connection with this case and is currently under police remand for three days for questioning. Investigative agencies are gathering information from him regarding important documents and decisions related to project approvals, budget allocations, and contracting processes.
In this case, police had previously arrested several senior engineers, including the former chief engineer of the department, from Udaipur last month. These officials are accused of overlooking regulations in granting approvals and compromising on quality while engaging in significant financial irregularities.
Sources indicate that complaints have emerged regarding incomplete works, the use of substandard materials, and payments made without the completion of tasks in various areas under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Udaipur. Based on these complaints, the investigation will now be expedited through technical teams and financial audits.
The administration has stated that if the investigation uncovers any suspicious roles of other officials or contractors, strict action will be taken against them as well. The government is taking this matter seriously and aims to ensure that any negligence or corruption in this ambitious plan to provide clean drinking water to the public will not be tolerated.
