Jamshedpur, January 30: A fierce police encounter took place late Thursday night near Sai Mandir in the Bishtupur police station area involving three accused linked to the kidnapping of industrialist’s son, Kairav Gandhi. The three criminals were injured and admitted to MGM Hospital for treatment.
According to police officials, the accused were being taken to the crime scene for weapon recovery when they attempted to snatch a carbine from a constable and opened fire on the police personnel. The police responded in self-defence, resulting in gunshot wounds to the legs of all three suspects.
Bishtupur police station in-charge Alok Dubey was also fired upon but narrowly escaped unhurt. City SP Kumar Shivashish stated that the police action was carried out in self-defence to control the situation.
The injured have been identified as Guddu Singh, Mohammad Imran, and Rameez Raja, all residents of Gaya and Nalanda districts in Bihar. They are the main accused in the Kairav Gandhi kidnapping case and had been absconding since the incident, reportedly hiding with weapons.
Several weapons, including a carbine, were seized at the encounter site. Police officials indicated that further questioning of the accused could lead to important revelations related to the kidnapping case.
It is noteworthy that Kairav Gandhi was abducted a few days ago in Jamshedpur and was safely rescued by the police after nearly 13 days. Since then, continuous action has been underway against the gang involved in the kidnapping.
Following the encounter, City SP confirmed that the search for other accomplices is ongoing and an in-depth investigation into the entire case is being conducted.
