Raipur, 30 January: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in politics based on hatred, saying that some people are deliberately creating divisions in the country for their own benefit.
Speaking to journalists on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s Martyrs’ Day, Kanhaiya Kumar said, “Today, the whole country and the world remember Mahatma Gandhi and vow to follow the path of truth and non-violence that he showed us. In Sarguja, a non-political organisation has been holding this event in his memory for many years.”
He added that certain groups are intentionally spreading hatred in the country to sustain their political interests, but they are unaware that the public has become more aware and alert. This has put their politics at risk, and such tactics will no longer succeed. “Mahatma Gandhi worked to unite all religions, but today, politics based on religion is being played in the country,” he said.
Kanhaiya Kumar further stated, “Today, politics similar to that of Nathuram Godse is being practised. Therefore, I believe we should remember Mahatma Gandhi every day so that this Godse-type politics ends and people of all faiths can live together peacefully. The country should remain united and its integrity preserved.”
Targeting the BJP, he said, “People in the BJP are also citizens of this country and know its history. Yet, they continue such divisive politics. They should stop this and follow the path of truth and non-violence, which will help the country progress and end politics of hatred.”
The Congress leader emphasised that no two communities should be made to fight for personal gain, and peace must be maintained in the country. “A deteriorating atmosphere will benefit no one but harm the people of the nation. Therefore, this must be stopped at the earliest,” he added.
